Beer, Bean Can Assault Suspect In Hot Water Again

An Ocean City woman, arrested twice within a few hours two weeks ago on assault charges after first hitting her fiancé with a can of beer and later attacking him with a can of beans, was up to her old tricks this week after repeatedly slapping the victim for taking the last can of cold beer before jumping off a second-floor balcony to elude police.

On Feb. 5, Kathleen Theresa Machen, 47, was arrested on second-degree assault charges after allegedly attacking her fiancé by hitting him in the head with a can of beer.

MD. Man with Down Syndrome died of asphyxia while in police custody

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says the death of a mentally disabled man in police custody has been ruled a homicide.

Cpl. Jennifer Bailey said Friday that the state medical examiner determined that 26-year-old Robert Saylor of New Market died of asphyxia Jan. 12.

Saylor had Down syndrome.

Bailey says he died after resisting arrest by three deputies at a Frederick movie theater. An employee had called police because Saylor wouldn’t leave his seat after a movie.

Bailey says Saylor cursed at the deputies. She says he became medically distressed while they were escorting him in handcuffs from the theater.

Essex Man Breaks Into Library Wearing Clown Mask, Is Tased.

Police used a Taser on a man suspected of breaking into the Essex Library last week and stealing $14.50 from a change tray.

The incident happened last Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the library in the 1100 block of Eastern Boulevard. Police say at 8:30 a.m., shortly before the library opened, a man donning a clown mask used garden shears to break in through the locked glass doors, then took $14.50 from a change basket, according to a police report.

Officers arrived shortly thereafter, and the man resisted arrest, even after police told him that they would use a Taser on him. He continued resisting and officers then used the Taser. Despite the shock, he continued flailing his feet and arms, according to the report. He growled and grit his teeth, according to police.
