Yoga Pants Not Banned at Eastern Tech

Students sounded their outrage on Twitter after the principal announced yoga pants were inappropriate for school.

A misunderstanding over the school’s dress code led to outrage from many Eastern Technical High School students last week.

In response to several dress code violations by students, mainly girls, administrators made an announcement on Feb. 16 about what is considered inappropriate clothing at the Essex school.

Among the items students were initially told were not allowed were yoga pants, Principal Tom Evans said. The flexible pants are popular among females and are being worn more and more for uses other than yoga and exercise.

This initial announcement caused many students to become upset, and Evans said, set off a “Twitter storm” of angry responses. By the end of the day, the dress code issue was clarified and students were told they were still allowed to wear yoga pants.

“Don’t believe everything you read on Twitter,” Evans said. “We have concerns about tight and form-fitting pants, but yoga pants are allowed at Eastern Tech. It was all just a big misunderstanding.”

Fishing At Back River Near The Sewage Treatment Plant

This is what growing up in Essex and Dundalk in the 70s was like. Carp fishing in the summer, in the winter when Back River would freeze hillbillies would ride their pickups out on the ice and crash through to the mud 3 inches below. Note the PBR box on the beach, the dead fish and the cast on the kid’s leg, not to mention his awesome bandana.

Baltimore’s Auto Race History Goes Back More Than A Century

With the popularity of auto racing growing across the nation during recent years, newer fans may not realize the long history the sport has in Baltimore. The last speedway in the immediate Baltimore area was closed in 1985. The surge in popularity of major racing venues around the country came after that date.

Competition between two or more autos can be traced in Baltimore back to November 1900. The event took place at The Gentleman’s Driving Park located across from the famous Pimlico Race Course horse track.

Other early racing events for autos and motorcycles were held at Electric Park and Pimlico. A racing accident at Pimlico in May 1908 made national news when Italian driver Emmanuele Cedrino was killed practicing his Fiat Cyclone for the coming race.

Auto racing in the 1920s and ’30s often used the ready-made tracks at county fairs or horse-racing facilities. Baltimore was no different, as cars took to Prospect Park, which was located on Eastern Avenue between Baltimore and Essex.

Prospect Park was located across from the Back River Sewage Treatment Plant in Essex/Dundalk. The "golden eggs" came much later.
