Pranksters routinely tag the Homeland sign on North Charles Street and Wyndhurst Avenue to annoy the powers that be in this well-heeled elitist community (median income: $140K). It’s an ongoing battle, as vandals have tagged the sign so many times that it even got mentioned in a Baltimore Sun editorial (“A Letter (Im) Perfect Neighborhood,” Baltimore Sun, page 2b, Aug 20, 2006). I pass this sign every day on my way home from work and have enjoyed such vandal variations-on-a-theme as “Ho land” (a reference to nearby Loyola College coeds?). And no, it’s not a hate crime, just some energetic juvenile delinquents messing with the landed gentry. Ya gotta love class warfare!
