John Waters Mistaken for Homeless Hitchhiker Again

 A hitchhiker’s guide …: Myersville man gives filmmaker John Waters a ride

When Myersville Town Councilman Brett Bidle picked up a man he thought was a homeless hitchhiker, little did he realize that his generosity had put him in the company of a well-known filmmaker and Baltimore icon.

John Waters was hitchhiking from his home in Baltimore to his apartment in San Francisco, Bidle said.

“How often does somebody pick up a stranger who turns out to be a famous person?”

Ten minutes into their drive, Bidle said, he asked Waters why he was hitchhiking.

“He began to tell me who he was, but I didn’t believe him,” Bidle said. “But when we stopped and he left the car, I Googled him, and everything popped up.”

The two had great discussions during their 41Ú2-hour May 15 journey from Maryland to Ohio, Bidle said. Waters told him he is writing a book about his cross-country odyssey.
